You’ve read all the books, talked to other dog owners, and have even puppy-proofed your home, but you can’t help but wonder, are you truly ready for this new adventure? As you embark on this journey of raising a new puppy, it’s important to understand that while this will be one of the most rewarding experiences of your life, it also requires patience, consistency, and a lot of preparation.

Bringing a new puppy into your home is an exciting time, but it’s important to remember that your home may not be as safe as it seems for your furry companion. Puppy-proofing your home is a crucial step in keeping your puppy safe and healthy, and it’s important to do this before your puppy arrives. Some tips to puppy proof your home are the following secure loose wire and cords, lockaway toxic items, move breakable items, and puppy proof your yard.

The essential you will need for your new puppy:

  1. Food and water bowls: These should be sturdy and easy to clean.
  2. High-quality puppy food: Do your research and choose a food that is appropriate for your puppy’s breed and size.
  3. Leash and collar: Make sure the collar fits comfortably and that the leash is durable.
  4. ID tags: Include your contact information and your puppy’s name on the tag.
  5. Crate: This will be a safe and secure place for your puppy to sleep and rest while you’re not at home.
  6. Dog bed: A comfortable bed for your puppy to sleep on.
  7. Grooming supplies: Brush, shampoo, and nail clippers.
  8. Chew toys: Choose durable and safe chew toys to keep your puppy entertained and help with teething.
  9. Training pads: To help with house training.
  10. First aid kit: Containing essential first aid items to have on hand in case of emergencies.
  11. Treats: for training and rewards
  12. Baby gates: to keep your puppy in a safe area of your home when you’re not able to supervise him.
